The City of Galveston proudly announces the installation of the Yeager Seawall Viewer, dedicated to the island’s rich history of acceptance and inclusion. This new marker honors the legacy of Albertine Hall Yeager, a pioneering African American woman who founded the Yeager Children’s Home in 1917.

A Legacy of Inclusion

Albertine Hall Yeager was a trailblazer who dedicated her life to caring for orphaned children and students of all races, religions, and ethnicities. Her unwavering commitment to inclusivity and support from the Galveston community has left an indelible mark on the city’s history. In recognition of her contributions, the Texas Historical Commission awarded the site of her original orphanage an Undertold Marker in February 2022.

Community Collaboration

This Seawall Viewer is a gift to the City of Galveston from Marsha Wilson Rappaport, honoring her maternal family who settled in Galveston over 160 years ago, and Tom Schwenk of Coldwell Banker TGRE. Their generosity ensures that the story of Albertine Hall Yeager and her profound impact on the community will be remembered for generations to come.
