Juneteenth 160: Freedom, Fireworks & Family
Join us at Menard Park to commemorate the 160th anniversary of Juneteenth with an evening of remembrance, culture, and celebration. Sponsored by Councilmember Sharon Lewis and the City of Galveston, the event will begin with opening remarks from Mayor Craig Brown.
The program will honor local veterans and spotlight a family whose relative served as one of Galveston’s first Black lifeguards during segregation. 👑 A former Miss Juneteenth will be recognized, and the evening will feature spoken word performances, a live set by DJ Spicy, and music by celebrated violinist Dominique Hammons. Author Anthony Griffin will also attend and give away copies of his book.
🍔 Food trucks will be available throughout the event, and the night will conclude with a fireworks display over the Gulf. 🎆 Bring your lawn chairs and blankets—everyone is welcome.
