Pat Jakobi has been taking photographs for over 40 years. Most of her color images from the 1970s and early 1980s have deteriorated due to the chemical instability of dyes used in commercial processing during those decades. That problem was corrected by the mid-1980s and disappeared completely with the advent of digital camera photography in the 1990s and the cellphone camera a few years later.
Pat’s retrospective show at the Galveston Art League gallery includes some of her early color images that were processed with better quality dyes, color images of the 70s and 80s where she has been able to digitally resurrect lost detail, film images from the 1990s, digital images (camera and cellphone) that have been professionally processed on photographic paper, and very recent inkjet-processed images printed on various papers and products. It’s an art exhibit coupled with a brief lesson in the history of photography.
The Galveston Art League gallery at 2117A Postoffice is open Thursday through Sunday from noon to 6:00 PM. The league also has an online gallery at www.galvestonartleague.com.
