Celebrate the holidays with a lineup of festive performances at this historic venue. ALL THE MAGIC OF THE SEASON IN ONE NIGHT Santa will be a special guest at downtown Galveston’s tree lighting ceremony. Galveston’s police and fire departments will provide a special escort for the man in red. The tree lighting coincides with Galveston Art Center’s ArtWalk, a community-wide event that takes place every six to eight weeks. During ArtWalk, shops, boutiques and galleries remain open later into the evening and feature live entertainment at several venues throughout the downtown district.
DICKENS ON THE STRAND: SEASONAL VICTORIAN SPLENDOR Step back in time to a world where Victorian elegance meets island charm. For over half a century, this beloved festival has transformed our historic downtown into Charles Dickens' London, complete with costumed performers, authentic entertainment, and holiday wonder around every corner. Don your Victorian finest (and enjoy special ticket pricing!) as you become part of this living celebration that has captivated generations of visitors. When gas lamps flicker to life and carolers fill the streets with song, you'll discover why this tradition has enchanted hearts for 51 magical years.
THE MAJESTIC 4-FOOT TALL SANDHILL CRANES ARE COMING Celebrate the arrival of these 3-4 foot tall, red-capped visitors, as we invite you to join Galveston Island Nature Tourism Council in what’s been dubbed by the New York Times as “one of the quirkiest events in Texas” – Holiday with the Cranes!
IT'S MORE THAN A RUN If you’re a runner or just like to dress up, you’ll get a kick out of the Santa Hustle, one of Galveston’s wackiest events. More than 5,000 half-marathon and 5K runners are expected to convene in Galveston for this jolly race where participants are provided Santa attire – including a Santa suit shirt, Santa hat and beard – to wear along their journey. The route is lined with speakers playing holiday tunes and fuel-up stations serving cookies and candy. Yum!
With balmy temperatures that usually hit 68°F (20°C) in December, you can pack your bucket and spade and head to the beach, or stroll along the famous Pleasure Pier. Although some days might feel too chilly to swim or partake in Galveston water sports, you’ll still have a chance to unwind, read a book to the sound of the sea, make sandcastles and top up your vitamin D.
