Moody Mansion
Moody Mansion
After the devastating 1900 storm, W.L. Moody, Jr.—a rising Texas business titan—purchased a striking Broadway mansion that would become both a family home and the heart of a financial empire. Today, Moody Mansion stands as one of Galveston’s most iconic historic homes, lovingly restored to its 1895 grandeur and filled with original Moody family furnishings, heirlooms, and memories.
Visitors can explore 20 richly appointed rooms, each telling a different chapter of the family’s life—from Christmas celebrations just months after the hurricane to the empire they built through cotton, railroads, insurance, and hospitality. The house museum is open daily for self-guided tours, with limited behind-the-scenes access tours offered on select weekends, taking guests into rarely seen spaces filled with untold stories.
Where history lives, legacies linger, and every room has a story to tell. The mansion’s charm also makes it a stunning backdrop for weddings, private events, and portrait photography. Inside, the dining room sets the stage for intimate gatherings, while the ballroom and outdoor spaces offer room for grand celebrations under the Texas sky.
On the ground floor, the Galveston Children’s Museum adds a playful twist to the visit with hands-on exhibits and activities perfect for young explorers.
