Galveston Arts Center
Where Contemporary Art Meets Community
Since 1971, the Galveston Arts Center (GAC) has been a cornerstone of the island’s cultural scene, offering bold, thought-provoking exhibitions and creative programming in the heart of Historic Downtown. Located in the beautifully restored First National Bank building on The Strand, GAC presents contemporary art that inspires, challenges, and connects.
As the official organizer of Galveston ArtWalk, GAC brings together artists, residents, and visitors for one of the city’s most beloved recurring events. Inside the gallery, rotating exhibitions showcase the work of professional artists from across Texas and beyond—each thoughtfully curated to provoke dialogue and spark imagination.
In addition to its exhibitions, GAC offers hands-on art classes, workshops, and community events designed to make contemporary art accessible to all ages and skill levels. If you're exploring your creative side or simply want to experience something new, you'll find something to engage and inspire.
Mission:
The Galveston Arts Center promotes and supports contemporary visual art through dynamic exhibitions and inclusive educational programming—based on the belief that art has the power to inform, engage, and transform.
