Along the harbor, historic downtown Galveston’s architecture creates the perfect backdrop for perusing the district’s many boutiques, antique shops, and coastal-inspired art galleries. A visit to La King’s Confectionery is always in order (as is indulging in its irresistible chocolates, ice cream, and fresh saltwater taffy). Taking a harbor tour boat ride from Pier 21 or enjoying local dining are also enjoyable experiences.
Tip: If you need a break while downtown, grab a latte or tea and sit under the pergolas at MOD Coffeehouse on Postoffice Street.
For a casual breakfast spot, Gumbo Diner opens at 7 a.m. every day with a large assortment of Southern comfort items, like chicken and waffles or biscuits and gravy, as well as traditional fare like omelets, pancakes, steak and eggs and more.
Tip: If you happen to be in town on a Sunday, don’t miss the chance to experience the elaborate Sunday Brunch at Grand Galvez.
BLVD Seafood is an excellent choice for lunch. It's intimate, stylish and serves plenty of options, including locally sourced seafood and quality meats. This joint is known for its sliders, fish tacos and my personal favorite, seafood chowder (made with coconut milk and cream base).
Walk hand-in-hand along artsy Postoffice Street before making your way to Vargas Cut & Catch, the latest venture from the creators of the award-winning Rudy & Paco Restaurant (an OpenTable Top 100 restaurant in America). Inside, you'll experience all the elegance of a contemporary steakhouse, from its décor and floor-to-ceiling wine cellar to its selection of USDA prime steaks and fresh seafood. The ambiance, food and location in a gorgeous historic building are all the ingredients you need for a perfect evening with your honey.
