September 8, 2025, marks the 125th anniversary of the Great Storm of 1900, a hurricane that devastated Galveston Island and shaped its legacy. With winds of 140 mph and a surge that overwhelmed the island, the storm claimed over 8,000 lives, making it the deadliest natural disaster in U.S. history.
